President: Kyla Pelham
Major: Cell and Molecular Biology
Minors: Spanish, Mandarin Graduation Year: Spring 2025 Hometown: Southborough, MA About me: I joined Sigma Delta Pi because I wanted to practice my Spanish and learn more about Hispanic cultures. I love learning languages, meeting new people, and being active! I have played on intramural teams at Northeastern for soccer, tennis, ultimate frisbee, basketball, and volleyball. I haven’t traveled at Northeastern yet because I have been taking premed-required classes in the summers, but I hope to secure a global co-op in China and participate in a Dialogue of Civilization to Peru or Chile next summer to improve my language skills. I have been part of Sigma Delta Pi for 1 year and love the community. I am very excited to be President and continue to grow and improve the society for new members! Outreach Coordinator: Nitya Shah
Major: Business Administration and Psychology
Minor: Spanish Graduation Year: Spring 2024 Hometown: Farmington, CT About me: I am a 4th year majoring in Business and Psychology and minoring in Spanish. I have loved Spanish ever since I started learning it in elementary school and I’ve always wanted to further my learning of the language and of Hispanic cultures. I joined Sigma Delta Pi in 2021 to improve my Spanish skills and meet other people studying Spanish at Northeastern. I’ve finished the minor so being part of SDP allows me to continue speaking Spanish and promoting the study of the language and cultures. This summer, I went on a Dialogue to Argentina, and it was an incredible experience! It was an amazing opportunity to practice Spanish both in the classroom and by communicating with native speakers, and I learned so much about Argentine culture. I’d highly recommend participating in a Spanish Dialogue if you have the chance. I am very excited to get to know all of you through SDP this year! Fundraising Coordinator: Emma Romano
Major: Biology Minor: Spanish Graduation Year: Fall 2024 Hometown: Long Island, NY About me: ¡Hola! I joined Sigma Delta Pi, because I enjoy speaking Spanish and wanted to be part of an environment celebrating Hispanic culture and a sense of community. I started learning Spanish at around the age of 6, and have loved being able to communicate with Spanish speakers I’ve met at work, volunteering, or making new friends. While I haven’t been able to travel to Hispanic countries yet as I’ve been taking pre-med summer classes, I hope to travel in the future (possibly to visit my uncle in Mexico!) |
Vice President: Cassidy King
Major: Chemical and Environmental Engineering Minors: Spanish Graduation Year: 2026 Hometown: Pittsburgh, PA About me: I joined Sigma Delta Pi because I believe that learning Spanish has helped shape me into more of a global citizen and I wanted the opportunity to connect with other students in the Spanish program who share the same passion. I’ve been to Spain and I hope to go on a dialogue to Latin America in the coming summers. In addition to my love for learning languages, I also love traveling, cooking, skiing, and listening to music (hit me up if you ever need a playlist of Spanish music to put you in the mood)! I’m so excited to be SDP’s Vice President and continue to connect within and grow the community this year! Volunteer Coordinator: Anjali Zyla
Major: Politics, Philosophy, and Economics
Minors: Spanish and International Affairs Graduation Year: Spring 2024 Hometown: Danville, CA About me: I first joined Sigma Delta Pi two years ago and have enjoyed all of the opportunities that I’ve gotten through this club to practice Spanish and meet new people at Northeastern who are also passionate about the Spanish language and culture. I completed my minor through the Dialogue to Peru with Profe Canavan last year, so I’m excited to have a larger role in the club this year to stay involved with the Northeastern community and continue to practice my Spanish! After I graduate next year, I hope to spend a gap year traveling South America and taking Spanish classes to become fully fluent. Social Media Coordinator: Julia Stukonis
Major: Criminal Justice
Minor: Spanish Graduation Year: Spring 2025 Hometown: Hudson, MA About me: I am a Criminal Justice major with a Spanish minor, and am hoping to attend Law School after graduation. Ever since I started learning Spanish in 5th grade, I always had a passion for it. Practicing my Spanish skills in classes has been beneficial, but I joined SDP to gain more exposure to the language as well as different Spanish-speaking cultures. I'm looking forward to an awesome year in SDP! |
