Hyde Square Task Force

  • Monday: 4:30-6:00pm
  • Tuesday: 4:30-5:30pm

Location: 30 Sunnyside St, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130 (although the volunteer experience will be virtual)

Description of Site: Hyde Square Task Force amplifies the power, creativity, and voices of youth, connecting them to Afro-Latin culture and heritage so they can create a diverse, vibrant Latin Quarter and build a just, equitable Boston.  They support youth as they  explore, master, and celebrate Afro-Latin culture through art; learn, grow, and achieve academically and in life; and develop into change makers and advocates for themselves.

Primary Focus: Education – Mentoring, Education - Tutoring, Education - Afterschool enrichment, Creative Youth Development


Activities:

  • Volunteers will support virtual mentoring and tutoring
  • Tutoring will occur in 1:1 pairs to support youth with homework help.
  • Tutors may be asked to support high school students with subject area homework such as algebra, chemistry, geomenty, etc.

Hernàndez After School Program

Hernandez After School Program


Description of Site: The Hernández After School Program (HASP) engages youth from the Rafael Hernández Two-Way Bilingual School to provide the highest quality of specialized services to meet the educational, social, emotional, cultural, and recreational needs of its students and the surrounding community. Volunteers may also have an opportunity to support HASP through session planning and grant/funding activities.

Primary Focus: Education - after school enrichment, education - tutoring

Activities:
  • Volunteers will work with their partnered students and assist them with their current educational studies, including  guiding them through homework, additional needed review, test or quiz preparation and fun educational enrichment  activities
  • If time allows, volunteers will facilitate additional educational and interactive activities.
